This guy is 100% correct.  The government should not be encouraging people who can't afford to buy a house to buy one by lowering the credit standards.  Now, if the government want's to partially back some loans to make them more affordable, i.e., lowering the risk to the lender and thus lowering the rate to the buyer, that's one thing.  That's a distinctly different thing than lowering the criteria to get the loan in the first place.  That's the mistake the government made, that they are still making, and not owning up to.
